Spanish veteran clinches title with a magnificent double win at Magny-Cours
Carlos Checa secured the 2011 World Superbike Championship at the last round at the Magny-Cours circuit in France, and did it with style by taking two wins on his Althea Ducati. One of the most experienced riders racing at the top level today, with a career that has spanned 20 years in the 500cc era, MotoGP and WSB, Checa put an amazing campaign together, with 14 wins, amazing consistency, and a fluid riding style complemented fully by both his Ducati 1198 and Althea team.
A long-term wearer of X-lite helmets – and co-developer with MotoGP racers Casey Stoner and Jorge Lorenzo – of the X-802, Checa’s stunning and stylised ‘globe’ atlas graphic has proven one of the most popular replica designs in the X-lite range. Also available next year in the UK, via importers Phoenix Distribution, will be the special Flat Black/White version of his replica, which he wore at the Silverstone round on his way to a double win.
The X-802 is a helmet developed from and for competition; it features three sizes of outer shell and has an ASD (Adjustable Stability Device) built in to aid stability at speed and extract hot air from the interior. The integrated front aerodynamic vent, side air extractors, direct entry front air intake and indirect entry upper air intake all work together with the ASD to maintain comfort under the most severe conditions. The visor of the X-802 has an impressively wide field of vision and a superbly fluid mechanism, and the triple-density removable cheek pads utilise STEADYFIT, ensuring comfort and security even at the pressure high speeds bring.
